ABOUT LEADERSHIP IS HORSEMANSHIP SUMMER CAMP

Sarah Parks Horsemanship offers one-of-a-kind programs that focus on developing leadership skills through the art of horsemanship and program leadership activities. Matched with their own equine, participants do not simply learn to ride, they are taught to care for the horse from beginning to end.

They will learn equine maintenance, basic health care, grooming, saddling and riding. The benefits are twofold as participants of all ages develop qualities that are inherent to a leader such as integrity, character, responsibility, compassion and mutual trust while enjoying physical activity, healthy relationships, pride in their hard work and intellectual development.

The experience of being involved in these programs will also offer them the opportunity to be mentored by other leaders, have positive role models as well as develop new relationships with other participants and their equine friends.

A TYPICAL DAY

CIRCLE TIME

Themed fun creativity exercises to recognize children and youth for their strengths.

LEADERS SET THE PACE

Together, as a group, children and youth will create their agenda for the day. We engage our participants in identifying the responsibilities and commitment that they have to their horses and ponies as individuals, setting personal goals and sharing what they are learning and working on.

HORSEMANSHIP BEGINS HERE

As a group led by Sarah Parks Horsemanship, children and youth will participate in feed, barn and health management activities as well as exercising their equine friends

LEADERS BUILD CAPACITY

Through fun, interactive and age appropriate exercises, children and youth will learn about effective communication, responsibility, respect, problem solving, confidence building, self-image, self-awareness and building relationships.

LUNCH & BREAKS

Everyone helps! Our lunches are set up in a team style effort where everyone prepares, sets up and cleans up.

FREE TIME

Each day the children and youth will have the opportunity to select, as a group, an activity from a roster of previously prepared fun. They may choose competitive friendly games, nature adventures, creative art, horse camp themed sing a longs, song writing and back to basics play such as a game of marbles or building obstacle courses from straw bales.

CURRENT EVENTS & CIVIL ENGAGEMENT

Through group exercises, children and youth will plan and engage in project based activities such as our own garden project on the ranch or planning their own horse event which includes inviting people out to enjoy an afternoon of horse fun. Invitations are extended to family and friends, people who are generally isolated, and/or desiring horse enthusiasts. The primary leaders of this process are Inter-generational and peer mentoring, as well as the motivation of the Leadership Youth Committee would be primary leaders in this process.

LEADERSHIP FROM THE SADDLE

Facilitated by Sarah Parks Horsemanship, participants will be instructed to prepare and equip their pony/horse and themselves to ride with safety gear. They will focus on developing themselves as confident riders and horse people who have integrity. Exercises will focus on physical agility/balance, mental focus, authenticity as well as respect and values for horsemanship.
